What is Freesat?

Freesat is a new digital tv service from the BBC and ITV. It will give viewers over 80 High Definition TV and Radio channels free! At first the freesat offering will be limited but as it grows there will be new channels added every month which means it will always be growing and you'll never be left without anything to watch.

The beauty of freesat is that its broadcast via satellite so you will get TV, Radio, Interactive TV & Games and beautiful HD reception at now extra cost. Currently its available to 98% of the UK population.

High-definition (HD) TV packs in four times as much picture detail as standard TV, so you get crystal clear images and fantastic colour. As technology advances, more and more programmes are being filmed in HD, so soon you'll have even more to choose from. Lots of other providers charge for this but with freesat, HD TV programmes are totally subscription-free, so you'll get even better viewing at no extra cost.

What do I need to get Freesat?

You can watch Freesat on a normal TV but to enjoy it for its purpose, true HD, you need a High Definition television. If you have a High Definition TV already then you are ready to go, all you need is Freesat Receiver or a HD TV with a Freesat Receiver built in.

For the time being you will need a Satellite dish installed at your home which both Comet , Currys and Argos can supply. It is possible to get Freesat through your current Sky dish if you have one although you will need to check with the manufacturer beforehand.

So What do I Do Now?

All you need to do now if you decide to go for Freesat is make a one off payment that will get you everything you need to start enjoying Freesat. So you will need to buy your Freesat Receiver and also have a dish installed* which you can get from both Comet and Argos when you decide to purchase you box.

There are no further costs with Freesat, just a one off payment!

*If you already have a Sky dish then you may not need a new one installed, check with manufacturer first.

Ok, so I want a Freesat Receiver, where can I buy one?

Currently there are only a few retailers selling the freesat receivers but this will grow in future as it becomes the norm for all households. Currently Comet, Argos and Currys sell the Freesat Receiver.

When we got hold of freesat we were just amazed at how fantastic it looks. Bearing in mind that we also have Sky HD, we are paying through the roof for that, now we can get Freesat for free its just fantastic. We highly recommend if you have an HD television you get hold of a Freesat Receiver!
